Part-time Technical Interior Designer

Kate Bendewald Interior Design | Denver, CO (Hybrid)

About the Role

We are seeking a highly detail-oriented, systems-minded Technical Interior Designer to support our growing full-service residential interior design studio.

This role is ideal for someone who loves translating creative vision into precise, executable design documentation. You will work closely with the Principal Designer and team to develop drawings, refine details, and ensure our designs are not only beautiful—but buildable.

If you thrive in the intersection of creativity and precision, this is for you.

What You’ll Do

Technical Design & Documentation

  • Produce detailed drawing sets including:

    • Floor plans, elevations, and sections

    • Built-ins, cabinetry, and millwork details

    • Furniture layouts and space planning

  • Translate design concepts into clear, construction-ready drawings

  • Update drawings and revisions throughout project phases

  • Ensure accuracy, scale, and consistency across all documents

Design Development Support

  • Assist in refining layouts and problem-solving spatial challenges

  • Collaborate on custom design elements with fabricators and trades

  • Support material selections with an understanding of real-world applications

  • Flag potential design or construction issues before they arise

Specifications & Coordination

  • Assist with product specifications and technical details

  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and workrooms as needed

  • Ensure drawings align with specifications and design intent

Systems & Organization

  • Help maintain organized file systems and drawing standards

  • Contribute to improving workflows and documentation processes

  • Support project tracking through tools like Notion, Dubsado, or similar

What You Bring

  • 2–5+ years of experience in interior design, architecture, or related field

  • Proficiency in SketchUp and LayOut (required)

  • Strong understanding of:

    • Construction documentation

    • Cabinetry and millwork detailing

    • Space planning principles

  • Exceptional attention to detail—you catch what others miss

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines

  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset

Bonus (But Not Required)

  • Experience working with residential interior design firms

  • Familiarity with procurement processes and specifications

  • Knowledge of materials, finishes, and fabrication methods

  • Experience collaborating directly with contractors and trades

How You Work

  • You are organized, reliable, and take ownership of your work

  • You don’t wait to be told what’s wrong—you look ahead and anticipate it

  • You care deeply about doing things right, not just fast

  • You enjoy being behind the scenes making the vision come to life

Why This Role Matters

This is a key role in our studio. Your work directly impacts how smoothly projects run, how clearly designs are communicated, and ultimately, how successfully they are executed.

You will help bridge the gap between concept and construction—ensuring our designs are as functional as they are beautiful.

Compensation & Structure

  • We are currently hiring for a part-time contractor position (approximately 20-30 hours/week), with the potential to grow into a full-time employee role over time as the studio continues to expand.

  • Compensation: Hourly (based on experience)

  • Opportunity for growth as the studio expands

  • Hybrid work environment (Denver-based)
